Tonight both the Wildcat girl’s and boy’s basketball teams will close out the regular season at home and determine their positioning in the state 5A playoff brackets. It will also be Senior Night when the teams host River Bluff with girls tipping at 6:00 and boys following at 7:30.
For the Lady Wildcats, it’s a chance to repeat as Region 5 champions. On Tuesday night, Lexington blew out the Chapin Lady Eagles by a final of 49-11. But with River Bluff’s win at White Knoll, the Cats and Gators are tied with identical Region records of 6-1. The victor tonight will earn the Region title and a #1 seed entering the post-season. Both teams will be at home on Tuesday when the playoffs begin.
After their 39-33 win over Chapin this week, the Lexington boys are 14-10 overall and 4-3 in Region play. They are currently tied with River Bluff for the second spot in the Region standings behind Dutch Fork (5-2). White Knoll is fourth at 3-4. With a win, either the Wildcats or the Gators will secure a home playoff game on Wednesday. In other Region 5 action tonight White Knoll is at Dutch Fork.
At halftime of the girl’s basketball game, the Cheer team seniors will be recognized. Between games, the boy’s basketball seniors will be honored and at halftime of the boy’s game, it’ll be the Senior Night ceremony for the girl’s basketball players and the Dance team members.
