Boys Varsity Football · Dominant: Cats 41, Devils 0

Lexington’s offense posted 41 points while the defense allowed just 114 yards as the Wildcats shutout the Dreher Blue Devils 41-0.  The Cats gained 344 yards on the ground, led by 159 from senior Taylor Mathias.  After a tough opening night through the air, Lexington completed 10 passes for 97 yards in the win.

The Cats found the end zone on their first possession of the evening when Elijah Ogden ran it in on a quarterback keeper and Brady Bolin tacked on the extra point.  The drive started at the Dreher 30 and took just 5 plays, including a completion to Anthony LaRusso and 15 rushing yards from Ahmad Bynem-Scott.

Lexington got on the board again at the end of the quarter.  A 1-yard touchdown plunge by Taylor Mathias capped off his 5 carries and 31 yards on the drive.  Bolin was good again and the first quarter closed with the home team up by 2 touchdowns.

The lead would be extended again before the half.  With 5:16 till the break, the Wildcats faced a 4th down and 18 from the Dreher 19 yard line.  Coach Perry Woolbright called on Brady Bolin who delivered a 35-yard field goal to make the score 17-0.

On the opening drive of the second half, the Cats continued to have no trouble moving the ball.  After a 59 yard run by Taylor Mathias, quarterback Elijah Ogden carried it in for a score from the 2 to cap off a 6 play, 80 yard drive.  Less than 3 minutes later, a Dreher pass was intercepted by Coleman Van Coutren at the Lexington 32 and returned 68 yards for a pick-6 and after the PAT the Wildcats were up 31-0.

After a 3-and-out by the Blue Devils, Elijah Ogden connected on a 29 yard touchdown pass with Zach Benn and the lead ballooned to 38-0.

Place kicker Brady Bolin would get one more shot in the game.  After 5 extra points and a 35 yard field goal, he was good again on a 30 yarder.

The Cat defense did not allow a first down the remainder of the way as the final score was 41-0.  Lexington improved to 2-0 and will face a challenge on Friday night at Gilbert.  The Indians also are 2-0 and have scored 62 points against Gray Collegiate and 52 on Batesburg-Leesville.
