Girls Varsity Softball · 9-Run Sixth Sinks Wildcats; Game 2 Wednesday at Home


The opener of the 5A State Softball Championship began Monday evening at Byrnes, the Upper State Champion.  Lexington jumped out to a quick lead in the opening inning, scoring 4 runs on 3 singles, a double, and a walk.  They added another score in the 3rd inning, 2 in the 4th, and other in the 5th.

Headed to the bottom of the 5th inning the Lady Wildcats were solidly in control in control.  But the Rebels’ offense and some Wildcat miscues changed the direction of the game.  Byrnes sent 14 hitters to the plate, banging out 3 singles and a double, then, with the game tied at 8, a grand slam.

Lexington was unable to recover from the outburst and Game 1 went to Byrnes by a final of 12-8.  Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be played at Lexington Wednesday at 6:30.
