Girls Varsity Basketball · Wildcat Ladies are Region Champions!

The Region 5 championship game between Lexington and Dutch Fork tipped off at 7:00 Friday evening on the neutral floor of River Bluff.  Immediately, Olivia Thompson hit a long three-pointer.  Then another.  Then one more.  Brooke Foulks added a layup.  Suddenly, just 3 minutes into the game, the Wildcats were up 11-0.  Although the Silver Foxes would chip away at the lead on several occasions, the Cats clawed their way to a 12 point win, 49-37, and claimed the Region title.

Lexington and Dutch Fork split their 2 previous meetings.  The Foxes edged the Wildcats 53-50 on January 15.  The Cats responded with an easy victory on February 1 with a 45-31 decision.

Friday night’s win gave Lexington their first outright Region championship since 2000.  They were co-champs in 2015.  The ladies are now set to host West Florence in Round 1 of the state 5A playoffs on Tuesday at 7:00.

Olivia Thompson finished with 21 points.  She has now scored 1,850 points as a Wildcat.  Brooke Foulks was strong again on the boards while adding 6 buckets and another 7 of 9 from the free throw line for a total of 19.

Lexington finishes the regular season with an overall record of 21-4 as they look to make a run in the post-season.
