Boys Varsity Basketball · Cardiac Cats: Lexington 58, River Bluff 56!

Six nights ago, Lexington made an improbable comeback against Dutch Fork and got the game winner from Mason Carver with 0.4 seconds remaining in the game.  Tonight at River Bluff, the Wildcats found themselves down by as many as 10 points in the 2nd half to top-level competition.  Once again, they pieced together a rally.  Four Cats contributed 3-point plays in the final 2 minutes.  Bradley Foulks, Ryan Green, and Jonathan Corley hit from outside the arc and Mason Carver was fouled on a made shot and added the free throw.

With the game tied, Lexington again had a potential game-winning trip down the court.  It was Mason Carver’s ball.  He could either run an isolation play or get it to one of his teammates who were all positioned on the perimeter.  Carver dribbled through his legs and saw daylight to his right.  At the free-throw line and, under pressure, buried a 15 foot jumper for the game winner.  Carver totaled 26 points in the game.

With the win, Lexington completed a perfect 26-0 regular season.  As Region Champions, they will be at home for the playoffs.  They begin next Wednesday at 7:00 PM when the Cats host the Bruins of South Florence High School.
