On Tuesday evening, the eyes of the Midland’s basketball world will be focused squarely on Lexington High School for the much anticipated matchup of two of the state’s Top 5 teams.
The state’s 8th ranked Lady Wildcats will be the heavy favorites in the opener against the winless River Bluff Lady Gators. Lexington enters with a record of 15-4. They are led by Seniors Olivia Thompson (1724 career points), Brooke Foulks (8 points and 9 rebounds per game), Hannah Kumiyama (5 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists per game), and Claire Tarlton (7 points and 5 rebounds per game).
In the nightcap, the boys will put their undefeated, school record, 21-0 mark on the line against River Bluff who comes in at 17-2 with losses to Irmo and Hillcrest early in the season. Lexington is currently ranked 4th in the state by the SC Basketball Coaches Association. River Bluff occupies the 5th spot. Last year, the teams split in their Region 5 contests. The winner on Tuesday evening will take sole possession of the Region’s top spot. The teams will meet again on the Gator’s floor on February 7.
The first 50 Lexington High students through the doors will get in free with a valid school ID. $1 admission for the next 50 with a valid school ID.
