Boys Varsity Basketball, Lexing · #16: Lexington 82, Aussies 54

Lexington kept a school-record winning streak alive on Thursday evening with an 82-54 final margin over the traveling Horizons Crocs from Australia.  They have now started the 2018-19 season with 16 straight victories.

From the opening tip, the outcome was never in doubt as the Cats opened up a 19 point halftime lead and built upon that in the second half.  The entire roster saw playing time in the game.  Moses Bartley of the Crocs was the top scorer of the evening with 33 of his team’s 54 points.   Mason Carver led Lexington with 21, with 18 coming from Bradley Foulks and another 14 scored by Jonathan Corley.

With no high school basketball in Australia, players join clubs in their geographic area to be able to compete.  Some of these teams travel to the United States in December and January while they are on summer break in their country.  The Crocs are from the Sydney area.  They left home for their 3 week tour on December 26th.  Prior to their stop in Lexington, they played 4 games against North Carolina high school teams.  The group also attended a Charlotte Hornets game and North Carolina-Harvard matchup.  They toured Duke University and visited the NASCAR Hall of Fame.  On tap are several more games before completing the tour in California with stops in Hollywood and Disneyland.

Lexington is back on the court this Saturday when they meet the Clinton Red Devils at Presbyterian’s Templeton Gym.  Region play begins Tuesday at White Knoll.
