The Lady Wildcat Soccer Class of 2018 has re-written the record book. In 4 years they posted 96 wins. Those victories led the team to 4 Region titles with a perfect 44-0 record in Region matches. Add to that 4 Lower State Championship appearances, twice emerging as champs. And they won the school’s first-ever State Championship in soccer in 2 appearances.
On Saturday, the Cats went out as 5A State Runners Up. After taking a 1-goal lead, they were unable to recover from 2 quick strikes from the JL Mann as the Patriots won the 5A title title 3-2. Lexington defeated Mann in the championship match 2 seasons ago.
At 36:17 in the 1st half, the Wildcats took advantage of a free kick as senior Siera Kirby gave Lexington a 1-0 lead. But Mann responded immediately as the 2nd half began. They scored at :11 and 2:27 to take a 2-1 advantage. The Patriots went up 3-1 at 24:03 with another goal. Six minutes later, it was senior Mary Katherine Waters scoring your final high school to tighten the match. She was assisted by senior Brooke Power. From there, the Cats were unable to put a shot on goal as the match went final in favor of the opposition.
The prolific senior class being lost to graduation includes: Tanner Behling, Megan Classer, Jessica Fedorka, Susanna Hutto, Siera Kirby, Brooke Power, and Mary Katherine Waters.
