Lexington’s offense got started quickly in their second District playoff game on Thursday evening. On the second pitch in the bottom of the 1st inning, Noah Huthmaker doubled to left field. Chase Crouch followed with a line drive homerun to centerfield to give his team a lead they would never relinquish.
Three Wildcat runners crossed in the 2nd on singles by Huthmaker and Tristan Allen, along with a dropped third strike, and two Knight errors.
Allen singled again in the 3rd, this time driving in John Carter and increasing the lead to 6-0.
Noah Huthmaker continued with his hot bat as he homered to left to lead off the 4th inning. Lexington added a final run two innings later when Seth Altenberg hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Chase Crouch.
Nathan Roof picked up the win, working 5 complete innings of shutout baseball, allowing only 1 hit while striking out five West Florence batters. Ty Watts and Elijah Ogden each pitched one inning and kept the Knights off the scoreboard.
With the win, the Wildcats are now 19-6 and will host the District finals on Monday against either Stratford or West Florence. They will have up to two tries to win one game and advance.
In addition to a shutout playoff win, the team and fans celebrated Coach Brian Hucks’ 400th career win as a head coach. He led the Brookland Cayce Bearcats from 2000-2011 before returning to his alma mater in 2012. His totals are now 400 wins against 163 losses, a .710 winning mark.
