Lexington pitcher Jonathan Howlett followed up a no-hitter against Flora last week with a strong, 3-hit shutout to give Lexington the Region 5 title. It is the 16th Region championship since 1990 and the 1st since the Cats won 3 consecutive in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Howlett went the distance, striking out 13 Blythewood hitters. He improves to 6-1.
Two Bengal errors and three Wildcat singles in the 2nd inning allowed the Cats to score two runs in the second inning. One inning later, the lead was extended to three on three singles and another Blythewood miscue.
Lexington added two in the 5th and one in the 6th as they cruised to the victory. The final totals were the Wildcats with 6 runs on 13 hits with 1 error and the Bengals with 0 runs, 3 hits, and 3 errors. The Cats take their (17-5) (9-2) record to White Knoll on Friday for the regular season finale. The playoffs will begin Tuesday with a home game against a yet to be determined opponent.
