Before a Senior Night crowd, the Region-leading Wildcats struggled to put anything together offensively for 4 innings. White Knoll scored two runs in the 3rd inning on a double, two singles, and a Lexington error. They added three more in the 5th inning to take a 5-0 lead on a walk, a double, and another Cat error.
As the temperatures began to plunge the Wildcat bats heated up. Chase Lemacks led off the home half of the 5th with a walk. With one out, Noah Huthmaker singled. Jared Kirven followed with another single that scored Lemacks. A David Cromer single allowed Huthmaker to cross the plate. Then Tristan Allen belted a triple to center field, scoring Kirven and Cromer. John Carter continued hitting well with yet another RBI single. After an inning-ending double play, the game was tied at 5 apiece.
In the 6th inning, Lexington finally edged ahead on a leadoff homerun off the bat of Austin Pearce, his first of the season. Ty Watts, in his second inning of relief work, shut down the Timberwolves and sealed the important region win.
Lexington is now 16-5 overall with an 8-2 mark in Region 5. They can claim the Region title with a win Wednesday night when they host Blythewood.
