Boys Varsity Baseball · No No! Howlett No-Hits Defending State Champs

After holding the defending 4A state champion Flora Falcons hitless through 6 innings, Jonathan Howlett took the mound in the 7th to face the 2, 3, and 4 hitters.  Baker Cox went down on 3 straight strikes.  Ditto that for Harmon Cox.  Elliot Thompson drew a walk, only the second Falcon base runner of the evening.  Then Howlett overpowered John McCabe for another strikeout to complete a sterling performance.  His final pitching stats were:  7 innings pitched, 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 hit batsman, 1 walk, and 13 strikeouts.

Noah Huthmaker scored both Wildcat runs.  He led off the 4th inning with a triple to center and later crossed the plate when Jared Kirven singled up the middle.  In the 6th inning the duo struck again.  Huthmaker doubled and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Kirven.

The win improves Lexington’s overall record to 14-5.  They are ranked 4th in the latest South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association 5A rankings.  The Cats will host Charlotte Christian Saturday at 1:00.
