Last February 25th, Jacob Brasseur won the individual state wrestling title at 113 lbs. It was only the 12th time a Lexington Wildcat won a championship in any weight class. Previously, Brasseur had finished 3rd as a freshman and runner-up as a sophomore.
Jacob Brasseur entered the 2017-18 season with a career record of 157-7. Wrestling at 120 pounds, he advanced to the finals of the Union Pines Invitational before dropping an 8-4 decision. That was on November 18th. He has been perfect since then, capturing titles in the Panther Invitational, Fort Mill Holiday Classic, Coastal Clash, KO Sportswear Duals, Blue Devil Invitational, Virginia Duals, and Patriot Duals. In addition, Brasseur won individual matches against Wando, Bishop England, South Pointe, White Knoll, River Bluff, Blythewood, and Dutch Fork. Then came a major milestone on January 26.
In a tri-match against Irmo and Spring Valley, Brasseur beat his Irmo opponent and, in doing so, reached the 200-win plateau as a Wildcat. He’s picked up three more W’s since then for a current record of 203-8, the best ever in Lexington history.
After defeating Goose Creek and Stratford in Rounds 1 and 2 of the state duals, Jacob Brasseur and his Wildcat teammates travel to wrestle the #1 ranked Fort Dorchester Patriots on Monday, February 5.
