The Lexington boys opened Region 5 play on Tuesday with a come-from-behind win over Spring Valley, 58-54. The Wildcats are now 7-3 overall and 1-0 in Region play.
A very athletic and physical Viking squad got off to a quick start but the Cats stayed close as the score was 30-24 in favor of Spring Valley at the half. Taking advantage of turnovers, solid shooting, and tough defense allowed Lexington to take the lead for the first time early in the third quarter, 34-32.
While the Cats were held to just 2 field goals in the final quarter, Mason Carver made 11 of 16 free throws to seal the win. Carver was the lead scorer with 24 points, Bradley Foulks added 13, and Jack Vandergeest totaled 12. Lexington will play at Irmo on Friday.
Earlier in the evening, the Lady Vikings were too much for the Lady Wildcats in an 84-60 final. Lexington is now 6-3 as they prepare to play at Irmo on Friday. Against Spring Valley, Olivia Thompson was the Cats’ leading scorer with 20 points. Alanna Langford scored 14 and Chelsea Davis added 12.
