The Lexington Boy’s Cross Country team is off to a great start in the 2017 season. After winning the Lexington County Championship race 3 weeks ago, they finished as runner-up in an elite, statewide field at the Lake Murray Invitational Saturday at Crooked Creek Park in Chapin. The race is sponsored by Chapin, Irmo, and Dutch Fork high schools and featured a field of 50 teams and 413 finishers.
The Boy’s overall winner was Sam Gilman of Hilton Head High School. He finished the 5 kilometers in 15:11, a pace of 4:54 per mile.
Riverside High School, ranked #1 in South Carolina 5A edged Lexington for the team championship by a score of 95-134. Riverside runners finished 4th, 10th, 14th, 21st, and 46th.
Lexington was led by Senior Thomas Sutcliffe who crossed the line in 15:54, a 5:08 pace. Xander Jeffcoat, an 8th grader, finished 17th overall. He was followed by William Johnson in 23rd, Heath McDonald in 31st, and Jeffrey Keene in 55th.
The Wildcats will run again this Wednesday when they host the Body Shop Invitational at 6:00 PM.
