Lexington scored 11 runs and pounded out 13 hits Saturday afternoon, easily eliminating Carolina Forest in 5A Playoff action. The final score was 11-1. With the win, the Lady Wildcats will continue their post-season run on Monday evening at West Florence in another elimination game.
Lexington scored two runs in the home half of the second inning. Autumn Garling’s one-out single scored Denaud Santini. Two batters later, Sarah Gordon, running for Garling, scored on a Panther error.
Carolina Forest scored their only run of the afternoon in the top of the third on three singles.
A 2-1 game became lopsided as the Cats went on offense in the fourth. Two doubles and a walk loaded the bases with none out. Ashley Jacoby’s fly to right center cleared the wall for a grand slam and suddenly the Lexington lead was 6-1. It was Jacoby’s second homer of the season. With one out and two Wildcats on base, Allie Light hit the second long ball of the inning, a three-run homer to left field to make it 9-1. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Saige Stanley crossed home on a passed ball.
With a 10-1 lead in the fifth, Aleah Waters walked and moved to second on a balk. Waters advanced to third on a sacrifice and Allie Light singled her home to end the game by virtue of the 5-inning, 10-run rule.
Lexington is now 15-6. With a win on Monday, they will advance to the District finals.
