Multiple Teams · Walk-Off: Cats Complete Comeback!

Lexington wrapped up the regular season with an exciting come-from-behind, walk-off win over the state’s top ranked 4A team.  As they head into the post-season, the Wildcats have compiled a 17-7 record, winning 8 of the last 10 ballgames.

The visiting AC Flora Falcons got off to a quick start with a 3-run first inning.  Four singles and 2 stolen bases keyed the rally.

Lexington answered with 3 runs on 4 hits and a walk to tie the game in the home half of the third inning and threatened to add more but a double play ended the inning.

The Falcons re-took the lead in the top of the fourth as they plated 2 unearned runs.  With 2 outs and runners at second and third, a Lexington throwing error allowed both to cross home and give Flora a 5-3 advantage.

Down 2 runs and headed to their final at bat, Coach Brian Hucks called on Ryan Derienzo to lead off the bottom of the seventh as a pinch hitter.  Derenzo delivered with a single to center.  Dalton Lansdowne followed with another single, his 3rd of the afternoon, and the Cats had runners on first and second with none out.  After an infield popout, Cole Lemacks doubled to centerfield, scoring Derienzo.  Noah Huthmaker drew a walk to load the bases and David Jacobs followed with a free pass to tie the game at 5-5.  With a drawn-in Falcon infield, Jared Kirven drove the first pitch sharply by the third baseman and into left field and Lemacks crossed with the winning run.

The final line was Lexington with 6 runs on 13 hits and Flora scoring 5 runs on 7 hits.  Jonathan Howlett, the fourth pitcher of the game for the Wildcats pitched 1 inning of shutout ball and was credited with the win.

Lexington begins the post-season at home on Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM when they host the Trojans of James Island.  Win or lose, they will play again Thursday at home against either Ashley Ridge or South Florence.
