Multiple Teams · Great Execution! 2nd Win At SC Diamond Invitational

In their 2nd game at the SC Diamond Invitational, the Wildcat storyline could not have been better: Solid defense, timely hitting, and stingy pitching.  It all added up to a 6-0 shutout of Dutch Fork.  Lexington scored on 11 hits and were error-free.  The Silver Foxes managed just 4 hits and committed 3 errors.

Nathan Roof got the start for the Cats and went wire-to-wire.  In 2 starts this season, Roof has pitched 24.1 innings, surrendering only 1 earned run, for a team leading ERA of 0.288.  So far in the tournament, Lexington pitching has held their opponents scoreless in all 17 innings of play.

The Wildcats got on the board immediately.  After singling and advancing to third base with 1 out, Dalton Lansdowne scored on an RBI single to right field by Cole Lemacks.  Lemacks went 2 for 3 in the game.

Lexington added 2 more in the second to take a 3-0 lead.  Three straight singles by David Jacobs, Jared Kirven, and Chase Crouch resulted in a run.  Crouch later scored on a groundout from Josh Asbill.  Both Crouch and Asbill ended the day by going 2 for 3.

In the Wildcat fourth, Crouch scored on an error by the Dutch Fork catcher as Asbill attempted to steal second base.  The run gave Lexington a 4-0 lead.

With Peyton Evans on third base in the fifth inning after a double and a groundout, Noah Huthmaker’s infield single allowed Evans to cross with the team’s 5th run.

The Cats added a final run in the top of the 6th inning.  With 2 outs, Josh Asbill doubled to centerfield and moved to third base on a passed ball.  Dalton Lansdowne drew a walk and while attempting a steal of second base, Asbill came home.

The 6-0 win was the second victory in three games against Dutch Fork so far this season.

Lexington continues play in the SC Diamond Invitational today when they meet Dorman at 1:30.  In the Natur Chem Invitational on March 2, the Wildcats defeated the Cavaliers 2-0.
