On Friday evening at Gilbert, Lexington used to long ball to come out on top, 7-4.
Allie Light led off the second inning with a line drive homer to centerfield. It gave Lexington an early 1-0 lead.
Gilbert responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on 2 Lexington errors. The Indians added 3 more in the third on 3 singles, a double, and 2 Wildcat errors.
In the Wildcat fourth, with Gilbert holding a 4-1 lead, Autumn Garling and Ashley Jacoby reached on errors. After 1 out, McKenzie Kaiser walked to load the bases. Then came the Wildcat fireworks as junior Denaud Santini knocked a grand slam to center and Lexington reclaimed the lead, 5-4.
The Cats added 2 runs in the seventh inning to make the final score 7-4. Lexington batted out 8 hits and committed 5 errors in the game. Gilbert had 7 hits and 2 errors.
The Lady Wildcats, now 7-3, return to region play on Tuesday when they host White Knoll at 7:15.
