On Wednesday evening at River Bluff, the Lady Wildcats took an early lead, but had to come back with a 3-run 7th inning to defeat the Lady Gators, 5-3.
Lexington got to work in the 2nd inning when Saige Stanley led off with a single and advanced to third on an error. She scored on an Ashley Jacoby sacrifice ground out.
The Cats upped their lead to 2-0 in the 3rd inning on 4 consecutive singles, the first from McKenzie Kaiser, the next by Denaud Santini, a third off the bat of Allie Light, and an RBI single by Saige Stanley.
Errors plagued Lexington in the middle innings as 5 fielding miscues produced 3 Gator runs, 1 in each the 4th, 5th, and 6th. After 6 complete innings of play, River Bluff held a 3-2 lead.
Timely hitting and Gator errors resulted in a big finish for the Lady Wildcats in the final inning. McKenzie Kaiser reached on an error. Denaud Santini walked. An error on an Allie Light ground ball allowed Kaiser to score the tying run. Saige Stanley followed with a double that allowed Santini to score. Abby Welch’s fly ball to center was misplayed and Lexington picked up their 3rd run of the inning.
With the Cats up 5-3, the Gators went down 1-2-3 in the home half of the 7th, making the score final.
Lexington is 5-2 overall and improves to 2-0 in Region games. They will host Dutch Fork at 7:15 this Friday.
