Senior Sam St. Andrews was hot in the first quarter. She popped three from outside the arc and added a layup for 11 of Lexington’s 15 points. But the White Knoll Timberwolves were making shots too. At the end of the 1st, the Lady Wildcats held a 15-12 lead. In the 2nd quarter, Alanna Langford put 9 points on the board and Olivia Thompson struck for 8, but again the T-Wolves were keeping it close as the Cats held just a 3-point 34-31 halftime lead in the final regular season game of the season.
Coach Molly Goodrich’s team stormed through the second half continuing their solid scoring but amping up the defensive effort as they cruised to a 67-48 rout at White Knoll.
Olivia Thompson was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points. Alanna Langford contributed 18 while Sam St. Andrews added 13 for the Cats. Emily Whitsett led the way for the Lady T-Wolves with 16 points.
After wrapping up the regular season with a 4-game Region winning streak, Lexington improves to 13-11 overall and finished 3rd in Region 5 at 7-5. They begin their State 5A playoff journey at West Florence on Tuesday, February 14 at 7:00 PM. The Wildcat/Knight winner will face the winner of (1) Goose Creek/(4) South Florence in Round 2 on Friday evening.
