Lexington swimmers competed in the 5A State Championship meet on Friday at the University of South Carolina natatorium.
The girls finished in 12th place overall out of 29 teams. Captain Maggie Halloran led the scoring with 4th place finishes in her 200 and 500 freestyle events, setting new team records in both of her events. The Girls’ 200 freestyle relay team of Riley Hardy, Emma Jeter, Jenna Couture, and Maggie Halloran finished in 5th place, while the 400 free relay team of Hardy, Jeter, Couture, and Halloran finished 10th.
The Region Champion Boys capped off a stellar season with a 4th place overall finish in the state. Junior JJ Hardy was the top scorer for the boys with 40 points, finishing with 3rd place podiums and season bests in both of his individual events – the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. His time of 53.22 in the 100 fly was an all-time Wildcat record.
Senior Austin Rich followed with 33 points and an 8th place season best finish in the 200 free and a 5th place 500 freestyle. Junior Logan Thomas was next with 24 points and personal bests, placing 10th in the 100 free and 11th in the 50 free. Preston Mazzie added 14 points and a season best with 9th place in the 100 fly. Co-Captains Kyle Williams and Seth Kurtz also scored for the boys in their top 20 events.
Both Boys freestyle relay teams dropped time in impressive top 10 races. Mazzei, Rich, Kurtz, and Hardy celebrated a 2nd place podium finish behind Riverside in their signature 400 freestyle relay. The 200 free relay of Mazzei, Thomas, Williams, and Hardy finished a strong 6th..
