The 2016 4A Playoffs presented a daunting task for the Lexington Wildcats. Travel to Mt. Pleasant and pull off a monumental upset over the State and Nation’s #1-ranked high school soccer team. When the dust had settled, it was not to be as Wando won the match and ended the Wildcat’s season.
The Warriors scored at the 2:37 mark and again at 14:27 to take a 2-0 lead. Lexington quickly put two shots on goal, one from Nolan Pollard and another from Trey Mitchell but both were saved. In the waning seconds of the 1st half, Wando struck again and built up a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Wando scored on a header at 12:24 and shot for a goal at 37:23 to make it 5-0. As time ran out in the match, Sam Plumer scored on a free kick to get Lexington on the board but the win went to Wando, 5-1.
Lexington finishes the season with an 11-13 record. The Wildcats graduate 8 seniors but will return a strong core of players. Good luck to the senior class and thanks to them for their contributions to Lexington High School Soccer!
