Lexington kept their post season run alive Monday night by defeating Stratford in an elimination game, 5-1. Junior pitcher Noah Davis went the distance for the win while holding the Knights to no earned runs and just two hits.
Next up is the District championship on Wednesday night at Carolina Forest. Lexington must defeat the Panthers in two straight games to win the District and advance.
The Wildcats put two runs on the board in the third inning on a leadoff double by Josh Asbill followed by singles off the bats of Dalton Lansdowne and Cole Lemacks.
Another run was manufactured in the fourth on a David Jacobs single, Rhett Bane sacrifice, Chase Crouch single, and Stratford passed ball.
In the fifth inning, Cole Lemacks walked and advanced to second on a single from Brice Kirven. Bubba Bowers drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Another Knight passed ball allowed Lemacks to score and put the Cats up 4-0.
Lexington got another “small ball” run in the sixth inning to take a 5-0 lead. Nick Graves singled to center, advanced so second on a passed ball, and moved to third on a Josh Asbill sacrifice. Graves scored on a fielder’s choice.
Stratford got an unearned run in the home half of the sixth but were retired 1-2-3 in the seventh to give Lexington a 5-1 win and eliminate the Knights.
The final numbers…Lexington: 5 runs, 9 hits, 2 errors. Stratford: 1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors.
With the win the Wildcats improve to 15-10.
