Multiple Teams · Bane Hurls Gem But Cat Bats Go Quiet In 1-0 Loss

In the top of the fifth inning with two outs, consecutive White Knoll singles and a Lexington error gave the Timberwolves an unearned run.  That was all they needed Thursday night in a 1-0 final over Lexington.

After a 6-game win streak with plenty of offense, the Wildcats could not solve the pitching of White Knoll’s Ryan Harbin as he limited the Cats to just 3 hits in the final Region game of the season.

On the Lexington mound, Rhett Bane was equally masterful.  He went the distance, allowing no earned runs and just 4 hits while striking out 7.

With the loss, the Wildcats must await the outcome of tonight’s South Aiken/North Augusta game for their final finish in the Region which will dictate the seed position in the playoffs.  A South Aiken win gives Lexington 3rd place, while they will finish 4th with a North Augusta win.

Coach Brian Hucks commented on the game, “a tough 1-0 loss tonight, but I like the direction this team is heading as we prepare for the playoffs.  Good teams turn it on this time of the year.”

Lexington wraps up the regular season Monday at Blythewood with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM.
