After faltering in the mid-season, Wildcat Baseball has won five consecutive games in convincing fashion. Tuesday’s win gives them a 12-8 overall record and a 5-4 mark in Region play. They play Blythewood on Senior Recognition Night Wednesday evening at home.
Lexington piled up the runs early. In the top of the first with one out, Dalton Lansdowne singled, Brice Kirven drew a walk, and Bubba Bowers singled to load the bases. David Jacobs knocked Lansdowne in with a single. A White Knoll miscue allowed Rhett Bane to reach base as Kirven crossed the plate. With two outs, Bowers scored when Jared Kirven was hit by a pitch. Josh Asbill followed with a two-run double to put the Cats up 5-0.
With one out in the Wildcat second, Brice Kirven singled and Bubba Bowers reached on an error. A David Jacobs fielder’s choice scored Kirven to make it 6-0. That’s how the game stood until the top of the fifth inning.
Nick Graves came in to run for Jared Kirven after he drew a leadoff walk. Graves advanced to second on a sacrifice ground out by Josh Asbill and scored on a Dalton Lansdowne single to increase the Lexington lead to 7-0.
White Knoll scored one run in the sixth on two singles and a Lexington error. They added two more in the seventh on four walks and a single.
The final line was 7 runs on 10 hits and 2 errors for the Wildcats and 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 errors for the Timberwolves. Jon Scott got credit for the win, working 6 1/3 innings. He surrendered 2 earned runs on 6 hits, struck out 6 and walked 3. Ben Sauls and Rhett Bane closed out the win in relief.
