In the bottom of the 8th inning, with the score tied 5-5 and with 2 outs, Lexington’s Shipley Yonkers singled to centerfield. That brought up 8th grader Jaci Fleming who hit one down the right field line as Yonkers raced around the bases and scored for the 6-5 Wildcat win. The Lexington ladies improved to 12-10 overall and 4-4 in Region games.
Lexington took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Shipley Yonkers singled and scored on a Kayb Spalding RBI single.
South Aiken put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 3rd inning, but in the home half, Lexington answered with 4 runs on singles by Jaci Fleming, Kayb Spalding, and Autumn Garling, and a triple off the bat of McKenzie Kaiser.
After the Thoroughbreds tied the game in the 5th inning on 4 hits and a Wildcat error, both teams were scoreless as they entered the 8th inning.
Lexington returns home on Tuesday for a Region game against White Knoll. Spring Valley visits on Wednesday for Senior Night.
